In order to determine the starting points and the goals of reducing energy consumption, it is first necessary to know the current situation. The relevant information is obtained from the Energy Information System (EIS), part of which is the Energy Accountancy (EC), which serves to enter the data on the monthly energy and water charges for various items. The central energy information system is installed in the UL server structure. Included are 48 UL buildings (over 500 m2), in these buildings there are 39 measuring points for electricity, 41 for district heating 22 for heating with gas and 1 for heating oil – total 150 placements per month. The data on energy use can be entered in the payment orders, and the system also enables the direct entry of e-invoices.

The energy information system is the result of a joint development project between IRI UL and Metronik d.o.o., and the architecture is such that UL systems are independent. The basic EIS includes energy accounting (legal obligation), and the upgrade can also collect data from calculating meters for electricity and heat (energy products). The system enables the production of various reports, both by building levels and by using energy, energy, costs and emissions of greenhouse gases, as well as the production of various comparative analyzes that are the basis for data verification and support for energy management of UL buildings.

The EIS enables the user (expert services, energy manager) to monitor the use of energy according to the data from the accounts, to create a cost structure analysis and to determine the priorities for action on the basis of financial indicators. UL has an overview of the state of use of energy without the search of data by faculty.
