REMARKABLE Consortium Meets in Zagreb

The REMARKABLE project consortium gathered in Zagreb on the 1st and 2nd of June for a fruitful discussion of the Climate Leadership Programme, developed by the project for Climate Leaders active at the municipal level, and the upcoming International Clean Energy Challenge in Austria.

The REMARKABLE project, funded by the European Union under the Horizon 2020 programme, aims to develop a multi-level framework for climate governance that empowers cities and regions to lead the transition towards a low-carbon economy, particularly by means of building leadership capacity at the municipal level.

The Climate Leadership Programme, designed as part of the project to support municipal governments in their efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and adapt to the impacts of climate change much earlier than 2050, has already been launched in several regions across Europe. At the meeting, the consortium partners discussed their experiences from the first round of REMARKABLE trainings, shared best practices, identified successes, challenges, and potential solutions.

In addition, the partners discussed the upcoming International Clean Energy Challenge in Austria, a satellite event of the REMARKABLE project. The challenge, which will be held in July 2023 in Spital am Pyhrn, Upper Austria, aims to promote innovation in the field of clean energy and attract investment in promising new energy technologies. Out of 300+ applications from 60 different countries, organisers selected 40 young professionals who will participate in a week-long event in the Austrian alps, learning, sharing ideas, and developing solutions to the climate challenges of today and the future.

A valuable item on the agenda was also the presentation by the project’s advisor, Cristina Mestre Martinez, on LIFE Clean Energy Transition. She outlined the topics that the fund would support in 2023, such as Citizens in the clean energy transition, Decarbonisation of buildings, Building skills and others. Ms. Mestre Martinez stressed that the LIFE Clean Energy Transition is dedicated to promoting clean energy usage at all levels, from individuals to businesses, as well as to support the development of innovative solutions that can aid in the conversion to cleaner energy. The fund is a reconfirmation that the EU is making significant investments in renewable energy technology to improve energy efficiency and to reduce carbon emissions.

In conclusion, the meeting provided the consortium partners with an opportunity to deepen their collaboration and share knowledge, bringing them closer to achieving the goals of the REMARKABLE project. Participants left Zagreb motivated to continue building a low-carbon future and creating sustainable cities and regions in Europe and beyond.
