EBENTO General Assembly in Tallin – Advancing our One-Stop-Shop Platform
The EBENTO project consortium recently gathered in Tallinn, Estonia, for its 6th General Assembly. As Tallinn is home to one of EBENTO’s four demonstration pilots, this meeting offered a valuable opportunity for partners to deepen their understanding of the Estonian context and observe a real-life renovation site firsthand. With the project currently in a phase of active solution testing and extensive engagement with pilot residents and key stakeholder organisations, the meeting was timely for consolidating knowledge and exploring the EBENTO platform in greater depth.
On-site learning and pilot visit
On Monday, 26 May 2025, our hosts from TalTech (Tallinn University of Technology) organised a visit to Energia 13, a social housing building undergoing a comprehensive deep renovation. This site is a key part of the Tallinn pilot and is being upgraded with a strong focus on energy efficiency and significantly improved indoor environmental quality.
Discussions and strategy at TalTech’s most energy-efficient teaching and research building
Tuesday’s sessions took place in Ehituse Mäemaja, TalTech’s flagship nearly zero-energy building dedicated to education and research. The agenda focused on reviewing ongoing activities, aligning on upcoming tasks, and sharing progress across work packages.
IRI UL is currently leading efforts related to assessing the social impact of EBENTO solutions. This includes designing a primarily qualitative methodology and developing accompanying tools. These efforts have produced a framework consisting of defined social KPIs (Key Performance Indicators), methodological guidelines, a modular toolbox of KPI-related interview and survey questions, and standardized templates for reporting. In the coming months, pilot partners will work closely with residents and stakeholder organisations to assess the impact of EBENTO’s tools and activities, particularly the One-Stop-Shop platform, on key social dimensions such as experience and perception of the indoor environmental quality, awareness and knowledge levels, equity, and accessibility to renovation measures.
Enhancing the EBENTO One-Stop-Shop platform
A highlight of the meeting was a hands-on workshop dedicated to EBENTO’s One-Stop-Shop (OSS) platform. Designed to coordinate and manage energy performance contracting and residential building renovations, the platform brings together the diverse needs of stakeholders involved in improving the building stock.
The OSS platform is composed of three integrated modules, namely the building performance contract module (a digital logbook for managing energy performance contracts and certificates, enabling the tracking of smart contracts), the monitoring module (an interface that helps residents understand their building’s energy use and the effects of renovation), and the simulation module (a Building Information Modelling (BIM)-based tool that simulates physical and cost-effective renovation scenarios, linked with the energy performance contract model to support investment decisions).
