Public presentation of the projects GEXIT and REPowerEU: Reducing energy dependence on Russian fossil fuels and fast-forward the transition to a low-carbon society
On Monday, 25 September, the Faculty of Electrical Engineering in Ljubljana hosted a significant public presentation of the results of the GEXIT and REPowerEU projects, which propose key guidelines for reducing Slovenia’s dependence on Russian gas and moving towards climate neutrality.
Edin Lakić, Tomi Medved and Jure Vetršek discussed potential measures through which Slovenia could enhance its energy resilience in case of energy supply disruptions.
The GEXIT project, titled “Breaking free from fossil gas” focuses on energy efficiency in buildings, the development of district heating, the increased adoption of heat pumps, and the creation of a sustainable mixed energy source for Slovenia by 2050.
The REPowerEU plan addresses the challenges and opportunities in the energy sector and proposes reforms and investments in the following areas: reducing fossil fuel consumption in industry, prioritizing biogas, biomethane, and renewable hydrogen, district heating, transportation, as well as plans to accelerate and optimize permitting processes to accelerate the use of renewable energy sources (RES).
