The INSSPIRE Project’s Real-Life Learning Lab Workshop in Uganda
In a world where climate change and food security present growing challenges, international and multilateral partnerships are more important than ever. IRI UL participates in the INSSPIRE Erasmus+ project, which promotes such collaborations to improve research and education on food systems and climate resilience. This programme brings together African and European universities in a South-South and triangular collaboration with the goal of transforming the sustainability of food systems across Kenya and Uganda. The project is preparing students for success in the global labour market by strengthening educators’ capacities, improving academic curricula, and adopting experiential learning methodologies.
Between the 6th and 15th of March, nine partners from the Netherlands, Kenya, Uganda, Slovenia, Spain, Ghana, Benin, South Africa, and France met to work on various sessions and workgroup activities, develop content on Food Systems and Climate Change, and evaluate the project’s current status.
IRI UL led and facilitated a 2-days Real-life Learning Lab (RLLL) workshop with the aim to empower educators with the tools to integrate R-LLL activities into existing curricula and study courses of their institutions. During the session, participants explored their R-LLL ideas, addressed stakeholder challenges, and created exciting vision boards aimed at stimulating innovation and creativity in education.
In a practical application of the workshop’s lessons, the INSSPIRE project team, joined by students from Mbarara University, ventured into the local community. This visit illustrated the development of community-based research skills among students, achieved through collaborative efforts with local farmers to address real-world problems.
As a co-leader in the dissemination and communication aspects of the project, IRI UL showcased the achievements and outlined future directions. This gathering offered a rare opportunity for partners worldwide to meet, forge connections, and establish forthcoming goals.
