Due to rising energy needs and tightening environmental standards, existing approaches to energy planning are becoming less effective. Municipalities often lack access to advanced energy-management tools, which hampers the transition to a low-carbon society. Digitalisation enables a breakthrough toward more responsive, adaptable, and efficient energy solutions at the local level.

The main objective of the DIGI-LEK project is to develop digital tools and methodologies to support local communities and other stakeholders in planning for energy efficiency and the use of renewable energy sources. It focuses on creating a prototype and evaluating digital solutions that will serve as the basis for the systematic digitalisation of Local Energy Concepts (LEKs).

Based on a review and analysis of existing digital tools and practices in energy management, the project will produce a user-facing, adaptable paper prototype and a graphical user interface (GUI) showing how the digital tool can be integrated into the existing data warehouse as a plug-in. Recommendations will be prepared for decision-makers to encourage the uptake of digital solutions in energy planning, covering the technical, policy, and financial aspects of introducing digitalisation. In addition, we will propose an evaluation and potential improvements to the newly established methodology for assessing digital energy concepts.

The result will be a proposed implementation plan for the digitalisation of LEKs. This document will bring together all findings, analyses, and recommendations of the study. It will serve as a guiding document for policymakers, energy managers, and other stakeholders in implementing digital solutions in local energy concepts.
