Key Challenge
Key challenge of the EURL3A project and knowledge alliances in general is how to enhance innovation and cooperation between higher education, business world/industry and broader societal environment. Knowledge alliances develop new, innovative and multidisciplinary teaching and learning methods, stimulate entrepreneurship and develop entrepreneurial skills of different target groups (students, researchers, professors, business professionals); and enhance co-creation, exchange and transfer of knowledge and good practices between higher education and industry.
Aim
Key aim of the EURL3A project is to develop Real Life Learning Labs of interdisciplinary teams of students and young entrepreneurs, under mentorship of professionals from universities and industry working on Real Life assignments that derive from the business sector and society in general. Interdisciplinary teams work on real-life cases that are related to ensuring energy efficiency in buildings and are promoting quality and healthy indoor environment. The main building of the University of Ljubljana served as a pilot case study.
Key Objectives
Interdisciplinary students’ teams have studies and developed solutions for holistic refurbishment of the main building of the University of Ljubljana. Solutions have been proposed from different research fields, such as:
- Alternative business models (e.g. energy services, public-private partnerships, legislative, regulatory framework. European structural funds, subvention etc.);
- technical/technological solutions (e.g. HVAC, safety systems, locally available renewable sources etc.);
- user behaviour and rational use of energy (e.g. researching and influencing the user behaviour);
- systems for building automation (e.g. energy management systems, CNS, advanced functionalities etc.);
- construction/architectural aspects (e.g. statics, fire safety, protecting cultural heritage, advanced solutions etc.).
