Study Visit to Košice Highlights the Implementation of Urban Real-Life Learning Labs

From 7 to 8 July 2026, representatives of the MAG-NET alliance partners took part in a study visit to Košice, Slovakia. The visit provided an opportunity to explore the city’s approaches to addressing housing challenges, attracting and retaining talent, and exchanging experiences on the transfer of good practices among partner cities.

For the Innovation and Development Institute of the University of Ljubljana, the programme’s central activity was a roundtable discussion moderated by Nina Hlebec. The discussion brought together Tanja Tamše, Larisa Potokar and Mirjam Medanović Gominšek from the Municipality of Celje, Lucija Grušovnik from the Celje Youth Centre, as well as transfer partners from Varaždin, Croatia, and Nardò, Italy.

The discussion focused on presenting the thematic challenges addressed by the five MAG-NET working groups—affordable housing, sustainable mobility, city atmosphere, Industry 4.0, and energy communities—using the Urban Real-Life Learning Labs (URLLLs) methodology developed by the Innovation and Development Institute of the University of Ljubljana within the MAG-NET alliance.

Participants shared their experiences of engaging diverse stakeholders, organising co-creation processes and fieldwork, and adapting the methodology to their local contexts. The exchange provided valuable insights for the further refinement of the methodology and its effective application in addressing complex urban challenges.

The study visit also fostered international knowledge exchange among the project partners and contributed to the further development of collaborative approaches to creating more inclusive and sustainable cities.
