Efficient Buildings and Renewable Energy: Interreg MED Community Conference
On October 18 and 19, a conference on energy-efficient buildings and renewable energy will be held in Ljubljana. The event is organised in the framework of the Interreg Mediterranean (MED) Program and will host the partners of all Interreg MED Modular Projects from the two thematic communities: Effective Buildings and Renewable Energy.
The European Territorial Program (Interreg) is funded by the European Regional Development Fund and is one of the key instruments of the European Union (EU) supporting cooperation across borders through project funding. Its aim is to jointly tackle common challenges and find shared solutions in fields such as health, environment, research, education, transport, sustainable energy and more. The Interreg MED Programme gathers 13 European countries from the Northern shore of the Mediterranean – they are working together for a sustainable growth in the region.
The Interreg MED conference in Ljubljana will present the mid-term results of currently on-going projects in the areas of efficient buildings and renewable energy. IRI UL also participates in the Interreg MED program with the EduFootprint project. At the conference workshop, we will present the approaches and results of this international project involving six Mediterranean countries. The key purpose of the project is to enhance the ability of owners and managers of public buildings in the direction of better energy management.
The purpose of the conference is to show the projects’ solutions for an efficient, inclusive and renewable energy model in the Mediterranean area, to foster discussion between experts from energy and environmental sector to explore new synergies, share best practices and innovative ideas, to increase the understanding of the current state, the challenges and the assets of the energy sector in the Mediterranean area, and formulate recommendations for its improvement.
In addition to Interreg project partners, representatives of some key national and international organisations will also attend the conference. The first conference day will be opened by Dr Lučka Kajfež Bogataj and a representative of the European Investment Bank, while Dominique Ristori, Director General for Energy of the European Commission, and a representative of the Slovenian Ministry of the Environment will introduce us to the second day of the conference. The sessions will be concluded by Pierre-Jean Coulon, Chairman of the Section on Transport, Energy, Infrastructure and the Information Society of the European Economic and Social Committee.
Find more information about the event on the conference website, including the conference agenda (PDF) and an online registration form. Participation is free of charge. The conference welcomes all who work on energy, within the fields of energy efficiency in buildings and renewable energy, in local governments, in national authorities, but also politics, businesses, industry and NGOs.
