Knowledge Alliance for Comprehensive Energy Reconstruction and Management of Public Buildings

The energy renovation of public buildings is an important strategic area within the EU’s energy-climate package (3×20 strategy). However, renovation poses various challenges, such as high energy consumption and associated costs; the preservation of architectural heritage, which imposes certain limitations on interventions; deteriorated and inefficient building systems; a lack of own funds for renovation, and so on.

Green Faculty of Humanities of UL

How can we influence the energy usage habits of users in public buildings? The challenge is not simple, as people often identify less with such working and living environments compared to their own buildings.

Flight path RUARDI

Air traffic and the aviation-related industry can be important socio-geographic and economic factors in a region, as they, with appropriate treatment and integration, have a strong impact on environmental development, local communities, spatial organization, and entrepreneurship.

More About the Project

Development of a new generation of tools for active energy management in buildings

In the European and Slovenian markets, there are several energy information systems for real-time measurement and analysis of energy usage parameters. However, with existing systems, we cannot fully exploit the potential for savings, especially those that could be achieved through predicting the response of buildings (e.g., considering future weather conditions or building occupancy). The development of analytical tools for optimizing the operation of building systems is the task of an interdisciplinary group of students, mentors, and industry. The project relates to the energy efficiency of the new buildings of the Faculty of Chemistry and Chemical Technology (FKKT) and the Faculty of Computer and Information Science (FRI) at the University of Ljubljana, as well as the development of a simulation model to reduce building operation costs.
